THE SAFE HARBOR PROCESS™
Guiding You Into and Through Retirement
Retirement isn’t a single moment — it’s an entire chapter of life.
Our Safe Harbor Process™ is designed to help you transition into retirement and stay confident throughout it. We focus on the financial details so you can stay centered on what matters most — your family, your health, your purpose, and the life you've worked hard to build.
This process gives you clarity, direction, and a clear picture of where you stand — without pressure or obligation.
Step 1) Schedule a 15-Minute Fit Call
A relaxed, no-pressure conversation to understand what brought you here and to make sure your needs match our experience.
We tend to do our best work with individuals and couples age 50+ who are already retired or near it, typically have $500,000+ saved for retirement, and want guidance not only into retirement, but through it.
If we’re a good fit, we’ll schedule your Safe Harbor Discovery Session™. If not, we’re happy to help point you in the right direction.
Step 2) Safe Harbor Discovery Session™
This one-hour meeting — in person or virtual — helps us understand your goals, concerns, and what your money is meant to support. Together, we will explore:
- Your retirement timeline
- Income needs now and in the future
- Your tax picture
- Social Security decisions
- Your investment approach
- What you want life in retirement to look like
- Any concerns or questions weighing on you
Everyone’s situation is unique. This deeper understanding helps us build a plan designed to support you into and through retirement.
Step 3) The Safe Harbor Assessment™
This is where clarity begins. We walk through what’s working in your plan, what needs attention, and what could be improved — all in plain English.
Our assessment will focus on our 5 core planning areas: Income, Taxes, Risk Management, Investments, and Estate.
You’ll leave this meeting with a clear summary of what we found and a roadmap of options to consider—including priorities around income, investment risk, and tax-aware planning—so you can move forward with clarity and confidence.
Step 4) The Reflection Period
We believe important financial decisions should never be rushed.
That’s why we have a no-signature policy during your review. Take your Safe Harbor Assessment™ home, reflect on it, and discuss it with your spouse or family.
Whether you choose to work with us or not, the plan is yours to keep.
If you decide Breakwater Wealth Management is the right partner to help guide you through retirement, we’ll walk you through the next steps at your pace.
Retirement and Tax planning is what we do. Those we work best with are:
Common Questions:
Is the 15-minute Fit Call a sales call?
No. It’s a short, no-pressure conversation to understand what brought you here and confirm whether it makes sense to take the next step.
Do I need to prepare anything for the Fit Call?
No preparation is required for the Fit Call. If we schedule a Discovery Session, we’ll tell you exactly what’s helpful to bring—nothing more.
Will I be asked to decide during the assessment review?
No. We build in a Reflection Period so you can take your time, review everything, and decide on your timeline—without pressure
Can we meet virtually?
Yes. We can meet in person or virtually—whatever is most convenient for you.
What happens if we decide to work together?
We’ll outline the next steps clearly and move at your pace. Our role is ongoing guidance—helping you make decisions into retirement and supporting you through retirement as life evolves.
What if I’m not sure I meet the “best fit” profile?
That’s exactly what the Fit Call is for. We’ll talk it through, and if we’re not the right match, we’re happy to point you in the right direction.
